Marc Anthony said a well-known phrase: “If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Centuries later Steve Jobs said: “The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.”
So, let’s look at 10 signs that show us it’s time to pursue our passion:
- You don’t know your passion yet but have a great desire to find it.
There are a lot of people who have no idea what their passion in life is and they can’t care less. At the same time, many people have a burning desire in their heart to understand their purpose, to find their passion and fulfill their dream. If you are searching for meaning in life and trying to uncover your potential, to define your passion and dream – that is a clear sign that you need to invest in it. Search for books, courses, tutorials, master-classes; work with a coach or counselor; talk to friends and close people who know you better and can help you understand what your passion is.
- Your heart is longing for something big, but you “can’t put your finger on it”.
Have you ever had a feeling that there is something big you ought to be doing, but you don’t have a definite answer what it is? Have you ever tried to understand that? If you know exactly what I mean, it’s time for you start investing your time and money into first finding out what it is, then educating yourself on the matter, and then developing this project.
- You are deeply concerned about something and wish to see changes in that area.
Is there something in our world, in your country or community that doesn’t let you sleep at night? Or maybe, you sleep fine, but keep thinking about it, talking to other people because it’s on your mind a lot. It could be human rights, environment, global warming, poverty, corruption, women’s rights, education, child labor, the number of orphans in the world, different diseases and health problems, business, etc. If you feel the urge to change something in this area, don’t tell yourself: “I am just one person, what can I do?” Start small, contact people who already do something, take part in the movement, blog about it – your voice can be powerful if you let it sound. And who knows, maybe you are meant to be the next leader of a big change in our world.
- Some of your hobbies bring you great joy and you’d like for them to start making money.
Most of the time, when we want to define our passion and purpose in life, we should look at what we are good at and then see if these activities bring us any joy. Our hobbies are usually the activities that make us lose track of time. They absorb our whole being and we have hard time stopping. If this is the case, try to find the way for your hobby to generate capital for you. You might have to invest quite a bit of time and effort into that, but the payoff will be worth it.
- You are really good at something and enjoy doing it.
Like I said above, our passion is usually defined as something that we’ve mastered or are just naturally good at. At the same time, it generates various kinds of positive emotions. Make a list of all things that you think you can do pretty well. Then, check those activities that make you feel confident, powerful, awesome, and authentic. There’s a big chance that the activities you checked will become your greatest passion in life.
- You know your passion and are ready to pursue it.
If you have no doubt what your passion is and don’t need any advice on finding it, you have no excuses not to pursue it. Now, all you have to do is decide what skills you still need to acquire to be able to succeed in your endeavor. Use different brainstorming techniques and create a list of necessary skills to bring your passion to life.
- Your friends keep inviting you to different courses.
Your friends love you and want what’s best for you, believe me. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t be your friends. So, if they keep inviting you to trainings, seminars, courses or coaching sessions – GO! Don’t hesitate! It’s time to act without wasting another minute of your precious time. Even if all the material isn’t what you really need, you will hear a few new ideas and find inspiration, maybe even get your epiphany when the speaker explains something totally unrelated, but remotely connected with what you’re thinking about. You will also be able to meet new people and network.
- You keep receiving promotional emails about certain master-classes.
Maybe, your friends don’t bother you with their propositions, but different businesses do. Don’t hurry to delete them and block the sender. Read their proposition, watch their promotional video, and even subscribe for their free webinars. You don’t have to buy from them if you don’t want to, but a lot of time they offer free content of high value to get you hooked. I’ve learnt so much from these freebies and received a lot of inspiration and specific ideas that I am implementing in my business now.
- All your friends and family encourage you to invest into your passion.
A lot of times, our closest people know and understand us even better than we know ourselves. Also, they could be the voice of your conscience telling you what you already know you should do. If you have such wonderful people in your surroundings, listen to them! Quit procrastinating and plan how you will start investing into your dream. Every moment of inaction drags you further away from the life you have always wanted. Train your will-power by using it as much as possible every day, and you will inevitably achieve success.
- You have a clear vision of how your passion can be turned into a career.
There is nothing that hinders your success anymore, only your own inertia. If you are not pursuing your passion and your dream yet, this is the moment to begin. Again I will say – stop postponing it! You’ve waited enough – start acting! Write a plan, learn and train, acquire necessary skills. Make connections with knowledgeable people who can help, advise and guide you. Your dream is waiting to be fulfilled!
